Welcome to Emmaus House

The mission of Emmaus House is to provide a home for women, especially women coming from jail, prison, or rehab. Our purpose is to provide the women with a family-like, Christian atmosphere while they are creating new lives for themselves. We see a women's stay at Emmaus as temporary, lasting until they are able to be on their own.
At Emmaus we believe that each person has the potential to become what God wants them to be, regardless of what they have done.
We believe each person is good, a unique expression of God. Our hope is to provide an environment where each women can come to realize her own goodness, and hence, the goodness of God.
Emmaus is funded entirely by donations and is tax exempt a non-profit charitable 501(c) 3 agency. Contributors so far include churches, church organizations, individuals, church members, one anonymous trust, several foundations, local organizations, schools and friends.
Emmaus House started in 1987 and is a faith story, a modern day miracle, a witness to the goodness of God expressed through hundreds of believers.
Almost everything that you see at Emmaus House has been donated, — furniture, rugs, wall hangings, appliances, etc… All given to us. Perhaps you see a familiar piece that once was in your family's home. And, because so many gift us, we are able to pass on the blessing. To date, we have had 681 stays at Emmaus, with some women repeating. The average stay is 7 to 8 months. The longest stay has been six years.

Emmaus House Has Some Unique Features

1. We try to ensure that each home has a live-in staff or senior "guest" who also claims Emmaus as home, giving Emmaus a real home-like atmosphere.

2. We have no specific end time for a women's stay, but each one can stay until ready to be on her own.

3. To date we have 12 homes. Some are beginning homes and some are homes for those who are no longer beginners.

4. We receive no financial help from any governmental body. Our staff are "missionaries" working without real salaries.

Our homes are located in Saginaw, Michigan:

The name "Emmaus" is from the Bible, Luke 24:13-34.

In the Bible, it designates the story of Jesus on the "road to

Emmaus", a city. Our hope is that our women while here,

will meet Jesus on their journey toward a better life.
