Those listed below, many of whom are regulars at Emmaus, have helped us this summer. We stand in awe at the goodness and generosity that we see here.
Tom Schrems fixed the dryer at House #5, and Jim Henne repaired the outside light there.
Tinamarie Hamp, beautician, continues to come each week for our women. Rita Genigeski, beautician, also gave us a day.
We and our women have been helped by three donated cars:
a 2001 Dodge Caravan from Bill Fothergill (Midland),
a 1992 Olds Silhouette from Betty Lackowski (Frankenmuth),
& a 2000 Saturn from Mr. & Mrs. Ronald James (Howell).
We thank God for such generous people.
Blooming Pails Flower Shop gave us gift items.
Jim Davis, Gaylord, brought a van full of new shoes, hose, etc.
Sheppard Vacuum Sales & Service repaired a vacuum for us.
Loving Ties Quilters brought homemade quilts. Every woman wanted one.
Zion Baptist Church donated boxes of candles, just in time for our 4-day power outage.
George Barrett donated 7 cases of toilet paper.
Jean & Doug Moore put new lighting and a new rug in our office at House #1. They are also our computer gurus, and do a myriad of other tasks from bookkeeping to altering a wedding dress.
We are blest with much food from our regular food donors, and many other anonymous donors, like the person who brought 72 frozen pizzas, or those who give produce from their gardens. Barb Baldauf wins the prize for the “most unusual food donation” with her gift of alligator and caribou (also venison).
Dentists: Dr. Joe Malek, Dr. W. Richter, Dr. Puszykowski, and Dr. Tracy Sepesy have helped quite a few of our women lately. (Teeth problems seem ever present.)
This summer we had our best perennials ever, thanks to Kathy & Bob Wheeler, Giles & Irene Beckman and Lori McConnell. Every one of our twelve houses had some flowers — flowers that happily will be around for years to come.
Hoyt Library, Saginaw, continues to provide computer classes for our women.
Blake Erickson, who teachers Driver’s Ed, is helping one of our women learn to drive.
One donor brought boxes of new summer sandals, and also boxes of hair for braiding, weaving, etc.
We thank those who give us every imaginable thing — rummage, clothes, furniture, etc. We average 6-8 donors per day, receiving as much as 6 truckloads in one day.
We thank Century 21 and all of the churches and organizations that collected cleaning supplies and paper products for us this summer. A great help to us! And, over $1000 worth of supplies! Thanks to everyone who dropped items into our collection boxes.
Many persons enabled us to take the women here on some summer outings — the Detroit Zoo, Haithco Park and the Muskegon Water Park. We thank the Subway Shops on Gratiot & South Michigan, and Intermission Deli for providing sandwiches, Underground Railroad for the use of their 15-passenger van, and especially Erin Meyers, our social worker, who organized and planned for the trips. Erin also solicited enough donations so that the women could stay overnight in Muskegon. The women really enjoyed the mini-vacations and were very grateful for all of Erin’s effort.
Network Services Group continues to keep our Internet working.
Drury Inn, Frankenmuth, gave us 12 TVs.
So many other individuals deserve our thanks — those who donate plastic bags & stamps, our haulers, our faithful regular volunteers, board members, webmaster, etc. We at Emmaus can only do what others enable us to do. Thank you, helpers!
